What should I say when I call my sphere for the first time as a new agent?
By Bill Kelly, Philadelphia Real Estate Coach and Director of Productivity Coaching at Keller Williams · Updated September 23, 2026
Short answer
Keep it simple and personal: tell them you got your real estate license, that you wanted them to hear it from you, and ask if they know anyone thinking about buying or selling. Then stop talking and have a real conversation. You're not pitching, you're letting people who already like you know what you do now.
A script you can actually use
"Hey, it's [your name]. I wanted you to hear it from me first: I got my real estate license and I'm working with Keller Williams. I'm not calling to sell you anything. I'm just asking the people I know: who do you know that's thinking about buying, selling, or renting in the next year?"
Why the sphere beats cold leads
Your sphere already knows you and trusts you. A cold lead has never heard your name. New agents who start with the people they know get to real conversations faster, and they get referrals that close at a much higher rate than anything bought online.
What makes these calls work
- Call, don't just text. Your voice is the point.
- Ask about them first. It's a relationship, not a transaction.
- Ask for referrals by name: "who do you know", not "let me know if".
- Log every call in your database and set a follow-up.
The first 10 calls are uncomfortable. By call 30 you'll have a rhythm. By call 100 you'll have appointments.
