I'm scared to cold call as a new real estate agent. How do I get over it?

Short answer

You get over the fear of cold calling by making calls, not by waiting to feel ready. Confidence comes from action, not motivation. Start with a small daily number you can't talk yourself out of, practice your script with another agent first, and let the reps shrink the fear.

Why waiting doesn't work

Most agents are waiting to feel confident before they prospect. It never happens that way. The feeling shows up after the action, not before it. Every call you make proves to yourself that nothing bad happened.

A plan for the first 2 weeks

  • Start with your sphere, not strangers. Warm calls first.
  • Pick a number: 10 attempts a day, same time every day.
  • Role play the script out loud with another agent before you dial.
  • Track attempts and conversations so you see progress.
  • Add expired listings or FSBOs once the warm calls feel normal.

What to remember on a bad call

A hang-up isn't about you. The person on the other end doesn't know you. You're looking for the one person who needs help right now, and you only find them by talking to the ones who don't.
