I just got my real estate license. Who actually helps me get started?

By Bill Kelly, Philadelphia Real Estate Coach and Director of Productivity Coaching at Keller Williams · Updated October 28, 2026

Short answer

Your brokerage and a coach should help you get started, but only if they work with you weekly. A real estate school's job ends when you pass. Your brokerage owns your training. A coach owns your accountability. If nobody is looking at your numbers every week, nobody is helping you.

Who does what

  • Real estate school: gets you through the exam. Done.
  • Your broker: supervises your license and your contracts
  • Training: teaches you scripts, contracts, and presentations
  • A coach: makes sure you actually do the activities, every week

What help should look like in month 1

A schedule. Role play. A database goal. Your first open house on the calendar. Someone asking how many conversations you had this week. If you're 30 days in and nobody has asked you that, you need a different kind of help.
